The 10-day Ely Winter Festival highlights the unique culture, art, history and traditions of the BWCAW area. The main attractions are the International Snow Sculpting Symposium and the Ely ArtWalk. The Ely ArtWalk exhibits artwork created by established and emerging artists in the store windows of downtown Ely. Events for the whole family include the Historic Voyageur Encampment, crafts fair, sled dog rides, concerts, spaghetti dinner and other events celebrating winter.
The cornerstone of the Festival is the International Snow Sculpting Symposium in Whiteside Park, with 20 smaller "amateur" blocks and more than 20 large "expert" blocks, each carved by a team composed of three or more people. View Ely Winter Festival Snow Sculptures here.
The Ely Winter Festival starts the first Friday in February. More information can be found on the Ely Winter Festival web site.
